OPAL-RT TECHNOLOGIES Updates OP4500-family RCP and HIL Simulator

OPAL-RT TECHNOLOGIES announced today the release of the OP4510 RCP and HIL simulator for power electronics. The OP4510 is the newest member of the OP4500 family of compact real-time power grid digital simulators from OPAL-RT, which was released in 2013 to industry-wide acclaim for its power and affordability.

The new OP4510 is a compact, affordable, yet powerful entry-level real-time simulator designed to bring OPAL RT’s core strengths to a wide user base in mechatronics and power grid engineering. Its components were selected for their power and accessibility, keeping the product in line with OPAL-RT’s goal of making real-time simulation affordable to all. The OP4510 marks a significant evolution of the OP4500 family, bringing a new level of connectivity, expandability, and versatility to the platform. It accepts up to four mezzanine boards supporting virtually any combination of I/O interfaces. It also features two expansion boards to support up to sixteen RS422 channels, or six optional optical links at 50 Mbps, and four optional small form-factor pluggable (SFP) module connectors, assuring future interface requirements are met. It also includes additional LEDs for improved usability. “The OP4500 set a new standard for affordable real-time simulators,” said Jean Bélanger, CEO and CTO of OPAL-RT TECHNOLOGIES. “The OP4510 takes this to a new level with more power, more expansion options, improved versatility, and an even higher benchmark for quality and reliability in its category.” With an emphasis on generic components and open connectivity, the OP4510 should find its way into the laboratories and desktops of everyone from students right up to the most advanced research facilities. Its Intel Xeon 3.2GHz processor, 128 MB solid-state drive, and Xilinx Kintex-7 325T FPGA promise high-end performance at an unbeatable price. “We are thrilled to add this innovative FPGA/PC-based simulator to our product line,” said Christophe Brayet, Global Product Manager at OPAL-RT. “The OP4500 family continues to make a significant difference in the domain of real-time simulation for mechatronics, power electronics, and power systems. The OP4510 is the next logical step in its evolution.”
