Opal-RT Delivers the World's Fastest, Most Precise Real-time Electrical System Simulator to Mitsubishi, Toyota and Hitachi Opal-RT has successfully demonstrated that the RT-LAB Electric Drive Simulator, installed this month at Mitsubishi Electric Company in Japan, is the world's fastest and most precise real-time simulator of electrical systems. Based on RT-LAB and Simulink software, the real-time electrical simulator can simulate a complete AC motor drive with a sampling time below 10 s, with an effective precision better than 1 s, due to the use of the fastest Pentium 4 Xeon dual-processor shared memory boards, a unique real-time interpolation algorithm and fast Xilinx FPGA reconfigurable I/Os. LiveDrive 2005 Challenge - Win Cash and Help Save the World! Attention all Professors, Students and Graduates, as the demand grows for this planet's all-too-finite oil reserves, the race is on for alternative means of powering our ground transportation vehicles. The most likely scenario that will be played out over the next two decades is that the hybrid electric vehicle will replace the pure internal combustion engine, which in turn will be replaced by the fuel-cell-driven electric vehicle, fuelled by the most abundant element in the universe, hydrogen.
The scope for the LiveDrive Challenge will focus on the preparation of off-line electric drive models for real-time execution.

New Defence Research Contract for Multiple UAV Simulation The Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC) has given Opal-RT Technologies a new contract to further develop the RT-LAB Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Engineering Simulator to optimize it for simulating many UAVs at once. The contract will cover many enhancements to RT-LAB and DINAMO, as well as providing new, state-of-the-art real-time technologies for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development and testing.
The project is budgeted at $1.5M CDN and will be partly funded by the Canadian Defence Industrial Research (DIR) program.

RT-LAB DriveLab RT-LAB DriveLab is a fully integrated Hardware-in-the-Loop experimentation platform that incorporates real-time simulation of Simulink and SystemBuild models with FPGA-based I/O interfaces and motors, with their required power electronics to drive them. The system has been specially designed to be simple and robust for use in educational laboratories but is sufficiently open to allow professor or students to expand the system to their requirements. It also features the RT-LAB LabVIEW API for the use of graphical operator interfaces that ease the use of the system. Read More
