  • Real-Time Simulation software upgrade includes full support for MATLAB 2008b, compatibility with Windows Vista, latest versions of NI TestStand and Python scripting language;
  • Support for Dolphin SCI PCI-Express technology decreases latency in low- to medium bandwidth communications
  • New “Target Info” feature enables engineering support staff to quickly and easily verify configuration and status of RT-LAB Simulators, even from remote locations

Opal-RT Technologies (www.opal-rt.com), the leading developer of open Real-Time Simulators and hardware-in-the-loop testing systems for electrical, power electronic, and mechanical systems, today announced the general availability of RT-LAB 8.3, the core technology behind the company’s flagship Real-Time Simulator products including eDRIVEsim, eMEGAsim, and the OP6000 TestDrive ECU Tester.

The RT-LAB 8.3 general release is now available for download by registered users from Opal-RT’s technical support website.

RT-LAB is the open Real-Time Simulation software environment that has revolutionized the way model-based design is performed. RT-LAB’s flexibility and scalability allow it to be used in virtually any simulation or control system application, and to add computing power to simulations, where and when it is needed.

Important improvements found in RT-LAB 8.3 include:

  • Full compatibility with Windows Vista
  • Support for MATLAB 2008b
  • New Target Info feature enabling engineering support staff to quickly and easily verify simulator configuration and status, even from remote locations
  • Support for National Instruments’ TestStand 4.1
  • Enhanced support for versions 2.5 and 2.6 of the Python scripting language
  • Support on RedHawk Linux-based targets for Dolphin SCI communications cards

“The Opal-RT approach has always been about developing open hardware and software products that can work seamlessly with the best third-party technology available on the market,” said Jean Belanger, Opal-RT’s President and Co-Founder. “By maintaining a high level of compatibility with the industry’s leading operating systems, modelling environments, scripting, testing, and communications products, Opal-RT can continue to offer affordable, high performance simulators that enable the design engineer to continue to use the applications of their choice, now and in the future.”

In addition to RT-LAB 8.3’s improved support for MATLAB 2008b, Windows Vista, TestStand 4.1, and Python, RT-LAB 8.3 will include support for Dolphin SCI PCI-Express technology, which along with the Dolphin Developers Kit, has shown outstanding results in preliminary tests on the eMEGAsim Real Time Simulator for low to medium size bandwidth communication.

Dolphin’s interconnect adapter provides a transparent, reliable high bandwidth and very low latency connection between systems equipped with PCI-Express slots using the IEEE SCI standard.

RT-LAB 8.3’s new Target Info feature will make it easier for users and support staff to manage and maintain their RT-LAB simulators, particularly in cases where the user has a large number of RT-LAB targets, located in disparate locations anywhere in the world.

With a simple mouse click from the Main Control Panel on the RT-LAB host PC, Target Info enables the user to query any RT-LAB target locally or remotely connected to the host. Target Info then creates a report detailing the hardware and software configurations of the target, as well as any processes currently running on the target machine. With Target Info reports in hand, support staff will now be able to manage the growing number of simulators in operation, in both the lab and the field, with greater effectiveness and efficiency, and with reduced downtime.
