Founded in 1997, Opal-RT Technologies has pioneered the development of PC-based real-time digital simulators integrating modeling tools such as MATLAB and SIMULINK from The Mathworks Inc., as well as SimPowerSystems, first developed by Hydro-Quebec, and commercialized today by The Mathworks Inc. Company founder Jean Belanger’s experience in the simulation of large-scale electrical systems dates back four decades, including a 25-year career with Hydro-Quebec and its research institute IREQ, where he designed and used a number of large-scale electrical hybrid simulators.
