Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

RT-LAB is the only real-time simulation framework that offers a choice of two high-performance Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS) - QNX or RedHawk Linux

QNX Neutrino RTOS has over the last 20 years established its reputation as the most robust, fully-featured real-time operating system for the Intel platform on the market today. Opal-RT selected the QNX operating system because it allowed high-performance hard-real-time execution on PC processors, allowing the delivery of dependable, innovative systems that our customers demand.

Engineered for POSIX compatibility, QNX Neutrino is built on microkernel architecture perfected through its use in thousands of mission-critical environments. This unique architecture gives users an extensible framework to create reliable, scalable, and high-performance products.

Since the company was started, Opal-RT has worked very closely with QNX developers to build an extensive range of drivers for data I/O and communications hardware. And, because QNX Neutrino targets the most popular CPUs and boards in the embedded market, users can choose the hardware platform that best fits their needs.

RedHawk Linux is an industry-standard, POSIX-compliant, real-time version of the open source Linux operating system. RedHawk achieves real-time performance by replacing the Red Hat kernel with a multithreaded, fully-preemptable kernel with low-latency enhancements. Opal-RT selected RedHawk Linux because it will allow design engineers who make Linux their preferred OS to further shorten the overall design process of complex systems.

Opal-RT works with Concurrent Computer Corporation developers to revolutionize the engineering process in system design. RT-LAB and RedHawk Linux's power and flexibility can be applied to real-time simulation, data acquisition, and industrial systems control, significantly speeding up test system implementation.
