Problem & Solution
RT-LAB : Error using the IEC 61850 driver / Cannot see the Driver list in the IO Interfaces

Problem

When using IEC61850 Protocol in RT-LAB 11.2+, I can't see the IEC 61850 Driver in the IO Interfaces Tool (IO GUI) or the model compiles but when loaded on to the target, the following error is shown:

"Error while Loading model iec_61850
Error 11: Error receiving loading information from one subsystem.
RT-LAB wasn't able to successfully load the model:
Please see the load log(s) for more details"

If you are using the trying to use the IEC61850 protocol in RT-LAB 11.2+ and you get an error, please start by opening and running the example model provided in the installation path first:

C:\OPAL-RT\RT-LAB\vx.x.x.x\Examples\IO\_Generic_\IEC_61850\IEC_61850

If you right-click the I/Os GUI in your project and try to add a new driver, you should be able to see IEC61850.

If you do not see the IEC 61850 Driver listed in the IO GUI, then you are missing a certain .dll.

Solution

Installing WireShark while making sure that ''Mergecap'' Tool box is selected. When it's done, relaunch RT-LAB 11.2+ and you should be able to see IEC61850 when adding a new driver in the I/Os GUI and the example model should work fine.
