RT-LAB : How To Share a Project / How To Import or Recover an Existing Project

RT-LAB : How To Share a Project / How To Import or Recover an Existing Project

It is common to want to share your work with colleagues or to transfer to another Computer. It is possible to share only the Simulink Model (.mdl), possibly Configuration files like the Bitstream and to create a new project with those files.

Fortunately, there is a method that makes it easier and makes sure that you keep the intended configurations and parameters while sharing. It is a sort of "Export" project. Another method to Import/Export Projects is describred in this KB Article.

Also, it's possible that you might have deleted a Project by mistake from the RT-LAB Project Explorer and want to reopen it again. (See Steps 4 and on)

As an example, the Project will be called Sharing_Project and it will have a Model named iec61850.mdl with an IEC 61850 IO GUI Configuration for as a communication protocol.

I will use the Default WorkSpace which is: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\OPAL-RT\RT-LABv11.X_Workspace\.

1. To Share an Existing Project, you must first know what is your Workspace.

For a normal installation, you will be asked what path you want to have as you're Workspace when launching RT-LAB. The default path is C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\OPAL-RT\RT-LABv11.X_Workspace.

If you are not sure what your Workspace is, you can find out by going to File -> Switch Workspace. It will lead you to the previous screenshot. Or you can double-click the .mdl model file in your project and the Workspace will be shown.

2. Go to your Workspace, ZIP the entire folder and then you can Share it.

3. Now, on the Receiving Side, unzip the Shared Project in the Workspace.

4. Open RT-LAB setting your Workspace to C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\OPAL-RT\RT-LABv11.X_Workspace\, go to File -> Open Projects from File System...

5. Navigate to your Workspace using Directory or type the path in directly (Archive not recommended).

6. Select the Eclipse Project and click Finish

7. The project will be Imported in the RT-LAB Project Explorer

Note that the Project will by take the name of the Simulink Model by default.

8. You can right-click the Project and Rename it.
