How to Install Redhat OS using IPMI

This KB article explains how to install Redhat OS on OPAL-RT simulator using IPMI.

Pre-requisites:

  • IPMI should be enabled on your simulator. If it is not enabled and the user is unaware of the procedure to be followed to enable it, please visit the following KB article.
  • Download IPMIView20 or have a browser installed on the Windows PC (Chrome recommended).
  • The user should have Administrator privileges.
  • The user should have JAVA installed on the Windows PC.


Method 1: Using IPMIView20

  1. This method assumes that the user has followed all the steps until Step 4 of Example 1 of this KB article.
  2. At this step, click on KVM Console > Launch KVM Console



  3. A new Console Window will open up.


  4. From this Console Window, click on Virtual Media > Virtual Storage and Virtual Media > Virtual Keyboard. The information on the screen may differ between Users.




  5. In the Virtual Storage Window, click on the Drop Down to locate ISO File and Select it.



  6. Click on Open Image and navigate to the .iso image of the OS, and click Plug In and OK.




  7. Once the Virtual Storage Window exits, click on Power Control > Set Power Reset.



  8. Start pressing F11 on the Virtual Keyboard to invoke the Boot Menu, make sure that you register a press by visually seeing a color change on the button.
  9. When the Boot Menu is displayed, select ATEN Virtual CDROM YSOJ by using the Virtual Keyboard's Down arrow and press Enter.



  10. Follow all the Steps in Step 3 and 4 of the document attached to this KB article.


Method 2: Using the browser

  1. This method assumes that the user has executed Step 3 of Example 2 of this KB article.
  2. In the IPMI tab, click on Remote Control > Console Redirection > Launch Console



  3. A file called "launch.jnlp" will be downloaded. Some Users could be prompted for a Java update at this step, please agree to the update.
  4. Click Continue and then Run on the Certificate and Java Viewer windows which open up, respectively.





  5. Upon successful completing of these steps, the user should arrive on Step 3 of Method 1, specified above and can follow the remaining steps.
