KELIANG Develops SVG Admittance Testing System with OPAL-RT’s RT-LAB Platform

The Company

Shanghai KELIANG Information Tech. & Eng. Co., Ltd. developed an SVG admittance testing system based on years of experience in power electronics and power system testing. In this project, the system was used by Guangdong Electric Power Research Institute to evaluate SVG performance and verify compliance with industry standards.

The Challenges

  • Growing Grid Complexity: The integration of new energy sources and AC/DC hybrid grids increased reactive power challenges.
  • Lack of Standardized Testing: No effective testing system existed for evaluating SVG devices from different manufacturers.
  • Controller Validation: Engineers needed a reliable way to verify SVG performance and control strategies.

The OPAL-RT Solution

  • RT-LAB Real-Time Simulation: RT-LAB provided the real-time simulation foundation for SVG testing.
  • Detailed Power System Models: The platform supports SVG, UPFC, MMC-HVDC, power grid, and renewable energy models.
  • Automated Testing Workflow: QuiKLab and RT-LAB automate SVG testing from simulation analysis to report generation.

The Results

  • Project Design Support: The system supports SVG planning, design, and parameter optimization.
  • Control Validation: Detailed simulation models help evaluate and optimize SVG control performance.
  • Standardized Testing: The platform performs automated and manual SVG admittance tests according to State Grid standards.
  • Improved Testing Efficiency: Completed SVG validation reduced testing costs and improved testing efficiency.
