Software policy
Release Schedule
OPAL-RT releases major versions of software at least twice a year, typically in January and July. Additional major versions may be released as needed.
Each major version may include new features, expanded product support, and bug fixes.
- Major version format: YYYY.1, YYYY.2, etc.
- Minor versions may be released between major versions: YYYY.2.1, etc.
MATLAB/Simulink® Compatibility
As of RT-LAB 2024.1, January and July releases support the six most recent versions of MATLAB/Simulink® available at launch—covering approximately three years of releases.
- MATLAB/Simulink® releases occur twice a year: March (a) and September (b).
- Compatibility includes all new features introduced within those six versions.
- OPAL-RT performs non-regression testing to ensure stability and performance.
- Toolboxes follow the same policy.
- RT-XSG compatibility differs and depends on AMD Vivado™ software.
Older MATLAB/Simulink® versions are removed from the latest major RT-LAB release.
Support Policy
Technical support is provided only for officially supported versions of software and compatible MATLAB/Simulink® versions.
Examples:
- RT-LAB 2024.1 (January) supports: 2023b, 2023a, 2022b, 2022a, 2021b, 2021a
- RT-LAB 2024.2 (July) supports: 2024a, 2023b, 2023a, 2022b, 2022a, 2021b
If an additional version is released outside the regular schedule (e.g., November), it will support the same MATLAB/Simulink® versions as the preceding major release. Compatibility with newer MATLAB/Simulink® versions will be introduced in the next scheduled release.
