ePHASORSIM has been engineered since 2011 to simulate exceptionally large and complex transmission and distribution networks in real time. Its high-performance RMS solver not only enables detailed transient stability analysis and seamless integration testing with EMS/SCADA systems, but also brings models from standard RMS simulation tools such as PSS®E, PowerFactory, and CYME into real-time operation.

Whether validating wide-area monitoring, protection, and control schemes (WAMPAC) through hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) scenarios or training operators, ePHASORSIM delivers the speed, scale, and realism needed to mirror the real grid.

Hybrid EMT-RMS co-simulation of the WECC 10,000-bus system

This demo highlights the simulation of the WECC 10,000-bus system using a hybrid EMT-RMS approach. A 9,000-bus portion is simulated in ePHASORSIM at a 10 ms time step, while a 555-bus subsystem—including three generic PV plants—is modeled in HYPERSIM at 50 µs. Interface nodes are represented as PQ loads in ePHASORSIM and as voltage sources in HYPERSIM. With ePHASORSIM embedded as an FMU within HYPERSIM, this setup enables efficient multi-rate co-simulation. This approach combines the scalability of RMS simulations for large systems with the precision of EMT modeling, where detailed accuracy is critical.
