HYPERSIM 2026.2 Released: Expanding Native IBR Modeling and Programmable Simulation Workflows

OPAL-RT has released HYPERSIM 2026.2, introducing new capabilities that expand native WECC-based IBR modeling, enhance programmability for large-scale model creation, and improve ePHASORSIM workflows.

This release adds 7 new WECC-based renewable energy and grid-forming inverter components, including plant-level control, electrical control, converter/generator behavior, BESS-oriented control, and droop/VSM-based grid-forming models (REGFM_A1 and REGFM_B1). These native components help users build and study PV plants, BESS systems, and renewable-heavy grid scenarios with improved model consistency and reuse.

HYPERSIM 2026.2 also expands the HyWorks API with new batch operations for programmatic model creation, enabling faster and more standardized generation of large simulation networks. Additional improvements include better ePHASORSIM configurability and troubleshooting inside HYPERSIM, with in-place modification of netlist and FMU assets and clearer diagnostic feedback through clickable UI notifications.

HYPERSIM 2026.2 is available in the OPAL-RT Download Center. Detailed information is available in the HYPERSIM 2026.2 release notes.
