HYPERSIM 2026.3 Released: Expanding Native IBR Modeling and Programmable Simulation Workflows

OPAL-RT has released HYPERSIM 2026.3, expanding native WECC-based renewable modeling, simplifying Phasor–EMT co-simulation, and adding High-Speed Converter Solver (HSCS) support for advanced power-electronics applications.

The release extends the WECC-based Smart Inverter Library with four components for Type 3 wind turbine dynamics: WTGT_A, WTGA_A, WTGP_A, and WTGQ_A. These components represent drivetrain, aerodynamic, pitch-control, and torque-control behaviour. Support for grid-forming inverter initialization also helps users build more consistent and reusable models for renewable integration and IBR stability studies.

HYPERSIM 2026.3 also introduces an IEEE 9-bus Phasor System with EMT Feeder example and revised documentation. This structured workflow helps engineers configure Phasor–EMT boundaries and the ePHASORSIM–HYPERSIM interface, preserving detailed EMT representation where fast dynamics matter while efficiently simulating the wider network in the phasor domain.

The release also adds HSCS support within the eHS/eFPGASIM workflow on OP4815 AMD Versal-based simulators. Engineers can bring Dual Active Bridges, resonant converters, Solid-State Transformers, STATCOMs, and advanced multilevel converter topologies into high-speed, FPGA-based HIL workflows.

HYPERSIM 2026.3 is available in the OPAL-RT Download Center. Detailed information is available in the HYPERSIM 2026.3 release notes.
