An upsurge in the integration of renewable sources to the utility grid has resulted into escalating concerns regarding power quality (PQ) improvement. In order to provide efficient operation under weak grid conditions, the necessity of a competent control technique is dominant. OPAL-RT provides solutions to help quickly develop, iterate and test control strategies, while cutting back on development risk, time and cost. The mathematical models are automatically imported into a real-time simulator configured with input/output (I/O) interfaces, before being connected to real-world systems. The major objective of the usage of OPAL-RT (OP4510) controller includes the testing of control technique for solar photovoltaic (PV) connected utility grid system. This enables us to corroborate reliable operation under weak grid conditions comprising of wide range of load variations, voltage sag, swell, distortion, and unbalance conditions. Thus, the controller functionality can be rapidly assessed in a representative testing environment, in order to ensure smooth and rapid implementation.
