RT20 | Real-time Evaluation of Grid Service Virtualization for Resilient Operation of Power Systems

In modern power systems, reliable provision of grid services (e.g. primary and ancillary services) are highly dependent on automation systems in order to have monitoring, processing, decision making and communication capabilities. The operational flexibility and availability of automation systems during and after disruptive events are essential for the reliable operation of power systems and at the same time challenging. Management technologies such as virtualization are key drivers to provide the necessary flexibility to reallocate, orchestrate and update such grid services. This talk first introduce an architecture and the relevant functional blocks of grid service virtualization solution. In addition, it presents a multi-disciplinary real-time platform for integrating and testing the flexible grid service management. This platform includes real-time power system simulation, communication system simulation, grid virtualization management tool and virtualized hardware-software components. The concept is evaluated by a set of scenarios for CIGRE MV benchmark grid.
