RT20 | Power Electronic Hardware-in-the-loop (PE-HIL) for HVDC Systems

High-voltage direct current (HVdc) converters consist of several hundred-thousands of modules present in them. There is research required to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of HVdc converters. There is also research required in the fault tolerance capability in HVdc converters. To achieve the same, there is active research on the modules circuits, gate drivers, advanced semiconductor devices, protection circuits in the modules, among others. To research modules in HVdc converters, there is a requirement for an emulator to produce the realistic operating conditions to evaluate the modules. Towards the same, this presentation presents an emulator named "Power Electronic Hardware-in-the-loop (PE-HIL)" that enables evaluation of individual module in a HVdc system under realistic operating conditions.
