This presentation summarizes the work that have been developed by the Smart Grid Group (SG2) based on OPAL-RT. The focus of the SG2 is connect power converters to grids, in which grids can be a nanogrid, a microgrid or a power grid. The real-time simulator OPAL-RT is the central equipment, “the brain”, in the researches of the group as it can integrate distributed generation, energy storage, power system, power electronics, measurements and control systems. The functionalities, that have been aggregated to OPAL-RT in terms of different platforms, have enabled several work connections.
The overview of the developed platforms will be presented:
a) a power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) platform to power converter and other real equipment test;
b) a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform to evaluate the impact of the insertion and local control of distributed generating sources;
c) a platform for photovoltaic DG;
d) a platform for accumulators; e) a platform for IED/PMU test; f) a platform for supervisory controllers test.
