RT21 | The growing role of real time simulation in power systems: from testing to education

The role of real time simulation has been significantly growing in the last years. The more dynamics become important in power systems, the more new use cases can be defined. An interesting and emerging use case is given by the analysis of interoperability issues in power electronics driven power systems. Other recent developments that will be also discussed in the presentations are digital twins and applications in education. Common element is the need more and more of a smooth path from problem definition to implementation. Another emerging requirement is the role of co-simulation in real time to address complex scenarios with a combination of tools. The presentation will use exemplary projects to propose an overview of the variety of aspects that are driving the growth of real time simulation.
