RT21 | Design of Distributed Control Systems for Microgrids

We have developed a distributed control system to incentivise the integration of small-scale distributed generation. The control system consist in the application of classic close loop control combined with two forms of artificial intelligence to a Microgrid circuit. The first one is the application of a Multi-Agent System that allows flexibility and reliability in the control system. The second one is the application of Artificial Neural Networks to give the system the ability to forecast and schedule its resources for optimal cost. A prototype is developed and tested with an OPAL-RT real-time simulator to evaluate the time response of the system and cost minimisation capacity.
