Worldwide use of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) becomes more evident for its technical and non-technical benefits. However, this implies technical challenges in field, in terms of the power quality, which mainly focus to the grid-connected inverter performance. International regulations about this power electronics element, prevents its interaction with the conventional grid from being affected; It also avoids risks to end users and grid-operators. Mandatory certification of inverters is essential to achieve an Energy Transition with greater environmental benefits. The increase in nominal power up to hundreds of kW implies higher costs in infrastructure and for energy dissipated in each test. For this reason, the mentioned regulations have gradually evolved from conventional test benches towards virtual environments in advanced simulation in real time. At the same time, inverters are evolving towards the advanced features that smart grids demand. INEEL, with the collaboration of CENIDET and supervision of SENER, develop an Advanced Simulation Platform for Interconnected Photovoltaic Inverters, technical bases, characteristics and preliminary results are briefly described in this work.
