RT22 | Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) for Microgrid Studies: Lucas-Nuelle Training Systems and OPAL-RT Microgrid Testbench

Lucas-Nuelle (LN) offers several distributed energy resources (DER) based training systems. Each of the DER based training systems, have their own dedicated controls and user-interfaces (UIs) via the LabSoft and LN SCADA software, which accompany each of these testbenches, thus allowing users to gain a good understanding of DER systems. OPAL-RT's Microgrid Testbench, with the help of power amplifiers, allows the possibility of emulating microgrids, and other distributed energy resources (DERs). An integrated system consisting of both the LN training systems and the OPAL-RT microgrid testbench can allow the possibility to perform several microgrid studies. In this presentation, LN training systems will first be presented, followed by a brief overview of the OPAL-RT microgrid testbenches. Integrated solutions will then be presented along with use-cases explaining how specific microgrid studies can be performed, with these systems.
