RT23 |Resiliency Enhancement of Microgrids through real-time coordination of fault detection

Microgrid (MG) systems effectively support integrating renewable energy resources within a limited geographic area. The intermittent nature of renewable energy resources and the uncertainty caused by unpredictable weather conditions significantly contribute to the lack of reliability in the real-time operation of microgrids. Furthermore, unpredictable faults and power shortages pose significant challenges, leading to the unreliable functioning of microgrid networks. Accordingly, evaluating the resilience of smart grid systems is a crucial term in ensuring their reliable and efficient operation. This paper aims to introduce various test aspects to quantify the resilience of microgrid systems. Voltage sag, recovery time required for the system to detect and recover from faults, and the time to reach power balance state are the key measures for the resiliency aspect of the Microgrid. The Microgrid model has been built in MATLAB/SIMULINK. A detailed simulation in OP1420 PHIL MICROGRID testbench has been conducted to analyze and validate the proposed schemes on the MG operation in real-time state.
