The very fast transition to net zero implies the massive deployment of renewable energy resources in the electricity generation sector at a time when many of the big pollutant plants are being decommissioned. These resources are mainly connected to the traditional AC grid by a power electronic converter that decouples the performance of the primary energy sources from the network phenomenon. Reducing the number of robust synchronous generators connected to the system and the increase in the number of fragile but very fast respondent power electronic converters are creating many challenges for the system operator, mainly because of the very fast and volatile dynamic. One of the issues is related to controlling the balance between generation and demand during normal and abnormal operations, making it more and more difficult to control. This paper presents a methodology to optimally define the settings of the under-frequency load shedding and the parameters of the grid forming control of inverter-based resources using a co-simulation framework, ePhasorSim and MATLAB. The proposed approach has been tested using the classical P.M. Anderson test system.
