RT24 UK | Using OPAL-RT simulators for HIL testing of MicroGrid solutions – practical experience

This presentation discusses GE Vernova's decade-long experience using OPAL-RT real-time simulators for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of Microgrid and Industrial Power Management solutions. With a focus on controller hardware-in-the-loop (CHIL) testing, the presentation explores how these tools address key Microgrid challenges, including regulatory compliance, seamless mode transitions, multi-timeframe control validation, and diverse system characteristics.
