Prof Xin Zhang is a Professor in Control and Power Systems at the University of Sheffield. The Sheffield Control and Power Systems Laboratory hosts 8 x OPAL-RT real-time digital simulators (1x OP5607, 1x OP5600, 1x OP5033, 5x OP4500) with 32 software licenses including 6x RT-LAB, 16 CPU core x eMEGAsim, and ePHASORsim, eHS FPGA, etc. Digital grid simulation facilities are developed that could potentially improve the security and control of cyber-physical power systems. Transmission and microgrid digital co-simulation platforms are developed for the fundamental integration of power and communications network simulators. OPAL-RT simulators are utilized in cyber-physical microgrid control, cyber-physical transmission security analysis and dispatch, and cybersecurity detection and mitigation. This project work is funded by UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship: “Digitalization of Electrical Power and Energy Systems Operation, MR/W011360/2, £1.5m” at the University of Sheffield, in partnership with OPAL-RT and major UK industrial partners.
