The penetration of DC microgrids in the power sector has gradually increased with the integration of renewable energy resources (RESs), energy storage systems (ESSs), and DC loads. DC microgrid reduces power conversion stages and does not need phase, frequency, and reactive power control, which makes it advantageous over AC microgrid. However, in an islanded DC microgrid, control of DC bus voltage due to intermittency of RESs and load variation needs examination through research. Control strategies to regulate the DC bus voltage with the inclusion of ESSs and interconnection of DC microgrids can provide the solution for mitigation of intermittency of RESs. ESSs are an option to solve intermittency caused by RESs and loads. However, ESSs are not a cost-effective solution for voltage regulation and power management. The economical solution for voltage regulation and power management is to interconnect the DC microgrids through interlinking bidirectional converters. The development and implementation of coordinated power management strategies for the interlinked subgrids of DC microgrids, which improve the powersharing performance of interlinking power converters and achieve generation-storage coordination.
