Demo | Traveling Wave Relay Testing with FPGA-based Real-Time Simulation

This demonstration showcases a real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation for testing travelling wave protection using an FPGA-based real-time simulator. The setup features the OP5025XG simulator with a OP4815 I/O expansion unit, running a three-phase frequency-dependent line model on Versal FPGA using Hypersim and eHS . It is interfaced with SEL T400L time-domain line protection relays using 1 MHz analog signals for precise fault detection and relay testing. Various fault scenarios, including phase-to-ground and double-line-to-ground faults, are introduced to evaluate the relay response, fault location accuracy, and overall system performance.
