OPAL-RT HIL Simulation for Variable Frequency Drive R&D

Harvest (Schneider Electric's Global MV VFD R&D Center) is a leading manufacturer specializing in the research, development, and production of Medium Voltage Variable Frequency Drives (MV VFDs) in China. In early 2024, Harvest collaborated with OPAL-RT China to implement a comprehensive Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation testing solution for MV VFDs designed for various motor types. This partnership successfully addressed three core challenges in VFD development: the immense computational load of electromagnetic transient simulations, the complex requirements for multi-motor and sensor models, and the safety risks and maintenance difficulties associated with high-power physical testing.
