RT26 Edinburgh | From Design to Maintenance Hardware-in-the-Loop for Advanced Power Electronics Applications

This presentation shows how Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) supports the design, validation, production, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced power-electronics applications across modern Power Systems. It covers real-time testing of controllers for hybrid AC/DC Distribution networks, onboard Microgrid systems, solid-state transformers, multi-terminal DC grids, energy storage, and high-power converters, using FPGA-based technologies such as the electrical Hardware Solver (eHS) and High-Speed Converter Solver (HSCS) to achieve sub-microsecond and nanosecond-level simulation. The presentation also demonstrates how HIL and Accelerated Simulation enable scalable controller integration, black-box model validation, automated testing, interaction analysis, and early identification of system-level issues before deployment.
