2026-07-09

This presentation explores the development and validation of a real-time AC Cascading Failure Model for studying Power System resilience under contingencies, islanding, overloads, voltage instability, and frequency-related protection events. Using ePHASORsim, the work translates the open-source AC-CFM methodology from quasi-steady-state analysis into a dynamic phasor-domain environment that incorporates electrical-machine dynamics, protection relays, grid inertia, load shedding, and interfaces with real-world equipment. Validation using the IEEE 39-bus network demonstrates how this real-time approach can support automated contingency studies, multi-platform laboratory testing, and future investigations into flexibility services, demand response, vehicle-to-grid applications, and cascading-failure mitigation.
