eHS | FPGA-based Power Electronics Toolbox

Easily Bring Power Electronics Models to Real-Time Simulation

OPAL-RT’s new Schematic Editor is an intuitive user interface for building power electronics and is a part of eHS. It provides an advanced graphical editor and is integrated with OPAL-RT’s & NI’s real-time simulation platforms.

Accurate and Precise Electric Machine Real-Time Simulation

Integrated within eHS, the FPGA Electric Machine Library is the ideal platform for designing and testing controller and power electronics and electric drive systems. The library includes a power electronic and motor library that lets you simulate all components forming the electrical motor drive system. It includes detailed mathematical model of different type of electrical motors such as:

  • Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM – IPM – BLDC- SPM)
  • Induction Machine (DFIG – DFIM – Squirrel Cage Induction Machine)
  • Switched Reluctance Machines

Low Voltage Ride Through (LVDT) Capability of Solar Energy Inverters Using an FPGA-based Real-Time Simulator

This Hardware-in-the-Loop demo consists of an inverter controller for grid-connected solar energies and an OP4510 real-time simulator. The controller, developed by the GREENLAB of Hefei University of Technology, is capable of low-voltage ride through–while the Electric Hardware Solver (eHS) is running on the OP4510, and simulates the entire grid-connected solar-energy inverter in real-time on the FPGA at a time step of less than 250 nanoseconds. The design of circuit schematic is done using the new OPAL-RT Schematic Editor.

Low Latency

eHS provides very low latency from PMW inputs to analog outputs, crucial for the accuracy of fast HIL control systems.

Model Fidelity

eHS has the capacity to run, in real-time, up to 144 coupled switches per eHS core for maximum simulation fidelity, without adding artificial delays in real-time simulation.

Fast

eHS provides PWM frequencies inputs/outputs up to 200 KHz, the fastest power electronic solver in the industry.

From Modelling to FPGA in 3 Steps

Import your model designed with your favorite circuit editor directly into the eHS user interface.

Then, compile your model in RT-LAB, and let eHS automate your system equation and configure your I/O parameters.

Finally, execute and interact with your real-time simulation, automate test sequences and enjoy sub microsecond FPGA-based simulation time steps.


eHS easily enables the running of test sequences and on-the-fly changes to simulation parameters by using the eHS Test Scenario feature. It allows the test engineer to jump from one set of component values to the next without stopping the simulation.
