Real Time simulation solutions for Power Hardware in Loop with OPAL-RT

Abstract : This talk introduces the fundamentals of real-time simulation with OPAL-RT and how it supports Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) testing for power electronics applications. A comparative study between hardware in loop (HIL) and P-HIL will be explained showcasing the wider test capabilities which can be achieved by opal-rt platforms. We will discuss modeling workflows, power amplifier interaction, real-time solvers, and common PHIL interface methods. Some Practical examples will be explained on how OPAL-RT platforms are used to validate converter controls, grid-interactive systems, motor drive applications, and protection schemes under realistic operating conditions.
