Exhibition & Presentations

Meet us and learn with us

IEEE PES General Meeting from July 19–23, 2026 at the Montréal Convention Center

OPAL-RT is a Silver Sponsor of the IEEE PES General Meeting 2026, the premier annual conference for power systems and energy engineering. IEEE PES GM 2026 brings together power engineers, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world to share developments in electrical power engineering, grid modernization, and real-time simulation through a wide-ranging technical program.

Connect with our team at Meet and Greet Table #20 on the exhibition floor to discuss real-time simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL), and rapid control prototyping for power systems. Engage directly with OPAL-RT specialists during four technical presentations covering data center simulation, grid code compliance testing, and secure digital substations.

Title: High Fidelity Modeling of Datacenter loads to understand Grid impacts

Date & Hour: Thursday, July 23, 2026, | 3:00 – 4:50 PM
Panel Session: Grid Interaction Challenges of Data Centers
Speaker: Jean-Nicolas Paquin
Conference Room: Room 516A
Abstract: The rapid growth of data centers driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure is introducing unprecedented challenges to electric grid operations. These facilities present highly concentrated, rapidly varying, and mission-critical loads that can impact grid stability, reliability, and power quality. Understanding their dynamic behavior, including sub-second response characteristics and interaction with transmission and distribution systems, is essential for future grid planning. This session explores modeling and control approaches, classification of flexible and critical loads, and development of standardized power and control interfaces between utilities and data centers. The discussion aims to highlight key research needs, operational challenges, and collaborative strategies to ensure secure, resilient, and efficient integration of large-scale data centers into evolving power systems.
