How To Prepare an Existing Simulink Model for Real Time Execution with RT-LAB

Before a Simulink model can be compiled and executed in real time on a target simulator, it must be made compatible with RT-LAB.  A video tutorial describing this process can be found in the Support Center section of the OPAL-RT website at the link below.

Video Tutorial: Preparing a Simulink model for Real Time Execution (Lesson)

First confirm that the existing model can be executed in Simulink with no errors, then complete each step below in order.  The process is described in more detail in the attached PDF document.

  1. Group the model into subsystems at the top level
  2. Name the subsystems
  3. Add OpComm blocks
  4. Maximize parallel execution if more than one computation subsystem is present
  5. Set the simulation parameters
  6. Execute the model in Simulink

After every step has been completed, the model is ready to be compiled in RT-LAB.
