Traditional grids are transitioning to smart grids, enabling applications like microgrids, energy management systems, and WAMPACS. However, these grids are vulnerable to cyber threats, necessitating the creation of a Cyber-Physical System (CPS). A real-time CPS test integrates physical and cyber systems, allowing cybersecurity studies, vulnerability assessment, mitigation evaluation, training, and education without compromising real devices' safety. Co-simulation is an advanced method for creating a CPS test, allowing flexible configuration, large-scale testing, and real-time testing of evolving cyber-attacks. The paper introduces an advanced CPS test that combines real-time simulation of physical and cyber systems, demonstrating its benefits, including integration of emulated networks with equipment and physical system dynamics, hypothetical cyber-attack scenarios, system resiliency measurement, and developing mitigation methods.
